Skid-Mounted Gas Processing Units: Advantages Over Fixed-Plant Solutions for Remote Oilfields

A skid-mounted gas processing unit is a pre-engineered, factory-assembled system mounted on a structural steel frame — the skid — that can be transported to a field location and commissioned without permanent civil foundations. For APG applications, these units typically handle gas-liquid separation, compression, refrigeration, and NGL (natural gas liquids) recovery in a single integrated package. The outputs are marketable products: LPG, LNG, stable light hydrocarbons (SLH), or pipeline-quality gas for power generation. The defining difference from a fixed plant is straightforward. The entire system ships as a unit, installs on prepared ground rather than a concrete facility, and can be relocated when field conditions change.
